My Approach

How do I Support My Clients?

Coaching with me is practical, collaborative and focused on helping you make sense of where you are, work out what matters most, and find a way forward that feels right for you.

You don’t need to arrive with everything figured out.

You might know exactly what you want help with. Or you might simply know that something isn’t working — you feel stuck, overwhelmed, disconnected, uncertain or unsure where to begin.

We can start there.

Together, we can slow things down, untangle what’s going on, identify what is within your control and work towards greater clarity, confidence and direction.

Getting Clear on What Actually Matters
When there is a lot happening at once, everything can start to feel equally urgent.

Separation, parenting, work, finances, relationships, health, loneliness and uncertainty about the future can all compete for your attention.

Part of coaching is creating enough space to see the bigger picture.

We can work on:

  • understanding what is really going on beneath the surface

  • separating the important things from the noise

  • identifying your priorities

  • getting clearer about what you want

  • working out what needs your attention now — and what can wait

  • breaking larger problems into manageable next steps

  • making decisions that are aligned with the kind of life and father you want to create

Sometimes clarity itself can be a huge relief.

Mindset, Perspective & Limiting Beliefs
The way we think about ourselves, our circumstances and what is possible can have a powerful effect on how we move through difficult periods of life.

Sometimes we become stuck in beliefs such as:

"I should be handling this better."

"I've failed."

"Things are always going to be like this."

"I'm not a good enough dad."

"I have no control over what happens next."

These thoughts can feel completely true when you’re in the middle of a difficult situation.

Coaching gives us an opportunity to examine them.

We can explore the assumptions, beliefs and thought patterns that may be keeping you stuck, challenge perspectives that are no longer serving you, and develop a mindset that helps you respond to your circumstances more constructively.

This isn’t about pretending everything is positive.

It’s about developing a more useful perspective — one that allows you to recognise what is difficult while still seeing your choices, strengths and possibilities.

Getting Unstuck & Moving Forward
Sometimes you know something needs to change but you don’t know what that change should be.

Other times you know exactly what you need to do but can’t seem to get yourself moving.

We can explore what is getting in the way.

That might involve fear, uncertainty, overwhelm, competing priorities, old habits, limiting beliefs, lack of confidence or simply having too much going on at once.

Together, we can identify the barriers, work out what is realistic, and find practical steps that help you regain momentum.

The goal isn’t to overhaul your whole life overnight.

Often the most useful progress starts with identifying the next right step.

Practical, Not Preachy
I’m not here to tell you how to parent, how you should feel or what your life should look like.

You know your children, your circumstances and your life better than anyone else.

My role is to help you think things through.

We can explore different options, consider what might work, identify potential consequences and help you arrive at decisions that make sense for you.

Sometimes that might involve very practical problem-solving around:

  • parenting routines

  • staying connected with your children

  • managing transitions between homes

  • communication with an ex-partner

  • establishing boundaries

  • navigating difficult conversations

  • rebuilding routines after separation

  • managing time when you don't have your children

  • creating more structure and stability

  • working out what kind of father you want to be

There is rarely one perfect answer.

The aim is to help you find approaches that fit your circumstances, your values and your children.

Helping You Get Steady When Life Feels Overwhelming
Sometimes the first priority isn’t solving the biggest problem.

It’s getting yourself into a better place to deal with it.

When stress has been building for a long time, you may feel constantly "on", exhausted, irritable, overwhelmed or unable to switch off.

Where appropriate, we can explore practical ways of supporting your nervous system and reducing some of that load.

That might include:

  • simple nervous-system regulation tools

  • breathing or grounding techniques

  • creating more genuine opportunities for rest and recovery

  • movement and time outside

  • reducing unnecessary demands

  • improving boundaries

  • recognising what is draining your energy

  • creating routines that support you

  • developing healthier coping strategies

  • finding practical ways to slow things down when your mind or body feels constantly activated

There is no single technique that works for everyone.

We can explore different approaches, notice what genuinely helps you, and build useful tools into everyday life.

Focusing on What You Can Control
Separation can leave you spending enormous amounts of energy thinking about things you cannot control.

What your ex-partner says.

What they think.

What happened in the past.

How someone else behaves.

Whether life should have turned out differently.

Those things may still matter — but they may not be where your energy is most useful.

A major part of our work can be learning to distinguish between what you can influence and what you cannot.

We can focus on:

  • your choices

  • your responses

  • your boundaries

  • your communication

  • your routines

  • your mindset

  • how you look after yourself

  • how you show up for your children

  • what you choose to build from here

That shift can create a much stronger sense of agency when life has felt outside your control.

Fatherhood, Connection & Practical Parenting
For many dads, one of the biggest fears around separation is what it might mean for their relationship with their children.

You may worry about losing closeness, not seeing them enough, getting things wrong or trying to parent across two different households.

Coaching can give you space to think about the father you want to be and what that looks like in everyday life.

We might explore:

  • strengthening connection with your children

  • creating meaningful time together

  • communicating with children at different ages

  • navigating changes in family structure

  • managing guilt or uncertainty around parenting

  • staying emotionally available when you are struggling yourself

  • establishing routines and expectations

  • working through practical parenting challenges

  • finding ways to remain a steady presence in your children's lives

I won’t tell you there is one "right" way to parent.

We work together to identify what feels appropriate for your children, your circumstances and the relationship you want to build with them.

Rebuilding Confidence, Identity & Direction
Separation can change much more than your relationship status.

It can affect your sense of identity, confidence, friendships, routines, finances, social life and your picture of what the future was supposed to look like.

At some point, the question can shift from:

"How do I get through this?"

to:

"What do I want my life to look like now?"

We can explore:

  • who you are outside the relationship

  • rebuilding confidence

  • reconnecting with interests and parts of yourself that may have disappeared

  • friendships and social connection

  • purpose and meaning

  • health and wellbeing

  • creating new routines

  • personal goals

  • relationships and dating when the time is right

  • what you want the next chapter of your life to stand for

Moving forward doesn't mean forgetting what happened.

It means gradually building a life that has something meaningful in front of you again.

A Non-Judgemental Space to Be Honest
Separation, parenting and rebuilding life can be messy.

You may have thoughts, feelings or experiences that you don’t feel comfortable sharing with friends, family or the people around you.

Coaching gives you space to speak openly without being judged, criticised or told what you should be doing.

You don’t need to perform.

You don’t need to have the right answers.

And you don’t need to pretend everything is fine.

We can work with what is actually happening.

Coaching Is Collaborative
You bring the lived experience and knowledge of your own life.

I bring structure, perspective, questions, practical tools, support and accountability.

Together, we work out:

Where are you now?

What is keeping you stuck?

What matters most?

What can you control?

What needs to change?

And what is the next useful step?

The aim isn’t simply to help you cope with separation.

It’s to help you feel steadier, think more clearly, stay connected with your children, regain confidence and build a life that feels like your own again.

You don’t have to have everything figured out.

Sometimes you just need somewhere to start.
